Many of our great clients have been adversely affected by the ongoing shutdown of European airspace as they have been forced to cancel trips to Barcelona. I’d like to offer our empathy to all of you, for it is a situation which could make every one of us feel frustrated and powerless, when all plans go to nought.
Our response to these circumstances is clear and straightforward – we want to make sure that you won’t be kept away from Barcelona for long.

• We will temporarily modify our policy stated in our terms and conditions articles 2.1.1 and 2.2.2 and shall NOT be claiming any cancellation fees from our affected clients who cannot travel to Barcelona.
• Whims of the Icelandic gods permitting, our affected clients can make another booking for the SAME apartment (or an equivalent apartment in the same complex) for check in until 31 December 2010 and apply prepayment made as credit for the new booking.

Moreover, we have NOT raised our prices, unlike many other businesses in many industries which have taken advantage of the unfortunate circumstances travellers have found themselves in.

Como sabéis, Barcelona es sede todos los febreros del más importante congreso mundial de telefonía móvil el MWC y nos llegan gentes de todo el mundo, de los lugares más insospechados…

Llegan a una ciudad de la vieja Europa, mediterránea y llena de historia.  Recuerdo la perplejidad de un cliente que alquiló su apartamento en el Barrio Gótico.  El apartamento era una monada, totalmente reformado y decorado con muy buen gusto.  Nuestro amigo venía de oriente próximo, con sus desiertos, sus rascacielos último modelo, sus islas con forma de palmera… y claro, métete en lo que es el Barrio Gótico de Barcelona.  Pues un laberinto de calles estrechas, adoquinadas, mucha fachada de piedra y sol sólo en los pisos más altos.

Su reacción fue “explosiva” y había que convencerle en 30 segundos de que no se puede despreciar lo que no se conoce, pero ¿cómo explicarle a un saudí el concepto de gótico?.   No se me ocurrió otra cosa que repetirle muchas veces, con los ojos muy abiertos y moviendo mucho las manos a modo de ¡¡¡¿estoy poseída?!!!, las palabras “historia” “cultura” “herencia” y una vez más “gótico, gótico, gótico”.  Y funcionó.

Accedió a subir al apartamento y al final se quedó encantado con la casa, con su estancia en Barcelona y con la oportunidad que tuvo de conocer el mundo fuera de su burbuja de petro dólares.  Por cierto un saludo a nuestro cliente, que ya se ha convertido en un fan de Barcelona y de bizFlats y con el que más de una vez nos reímos recordándo aquella su primera experiencia con nosotros.

¿Verdad que estamos hartos de oír a la gente decir eso de “a mi me encanta viajar…”? (¿ehh? Hala venga, ¡y se nos llena la boca!)  Pues viajar y hacerlo bien es difícil; complicado.

Requiere sentido común y sentido del humor y ya sabemos que ninguno de los dos abunda.  Requiere también ponerse lo que yo llamo “la capa de teflón” que es la dosis precisa de… “me va a resbalar todo lo que me agreda”.

Como nuestro amigo, que se dejó llevar por la primera impresión y sólo tuvo que tener la paciencia suficiente para darse cuenta de que poniéndose “la capa” y rascando un poquito dentro de si mismo, pudo encontrar en lo que no conocía o no entendía, algo con lo que empatizar.

¿Alguien se cree que tener una casa en la Toscana, otra en el lago Como, la de Aspen para esquiar y la de…, es un lujo? pues no.  Una casa necesita cuidados, que se ocupen de ella y eso en lo que se convierte es en una trituradora de dinero, eso no se puede sostener aunque matemáticamente te lo puedas permitir.  ¿Alguien puede entender que uno se vaya de casa y deje todas las luces encendidas y el grifo de la ducha abierto? pues tampoco.  El derroche de agua y el gasto salvaje de energía nos insulta a todos.  Y por último, ¿alguien entiende cómo se puede vivir gastando más de lo que se gana? pues definitivamente no.  De esos barros, estos lodos.  Hemos vivido demasiado tiempo en la época de los excesos y la mala educación y de nada nos sirve justificarnos diciendo que estábamos metidos en esa espiral, que todo el mundo hacía lo mismo o que ese modo de vida ya se había convertido en una costumbre.

Es momento de cambiar, ya es hora. Seríamos muy torpes si estas situaciones de crisis, no provocaran una catarsis en todos nosotros que redecorara nuestras cabezas… seríamos muy torpes…

Y la forma en la que nos planteamos los viajes, también va a cambiar.  No todos tenemos amigos que nos puedan prestar sus casas y los hoteles no aportan nada nuevo, ya sabemos lo que son, la vida en 25 m2 y comer y cenar fuera, si o si.  Pero no es culpa de nadie, en todo este tiempo nadie había propuesto una idea fresca e innovadora, que nos enseñara otra cara del cubo.

¿Te imaginas que tu chico -aquí englobamos todas las categorías:  marido, novio, amigo con derecho a roce-  mientras tú te echas un sueñecito o te das un baño de espuma con velitas o te vas a renovar el armario, se mete en la cocina y cuando tú apareces en el salón te está esperando una copa de cava bien frío, la música adecuada y un aroma delicioso a cena romántica? (lo que nunca hace en casa, claro)… ¡chicos poneros las pilas que estamos de vacaciones! y las vacaciones son para hacer cosas distintas y eso no sólo es hacer turismo, ir a museos, al cine, visitar sitios nuevos… sino visitar sitios nuevos dentro de nuestros cerebros.

Es hacer cosas distintas con nuestros hábitos de vida, hablar mucho con nuestras parejas, con nuestros hijos, con nuestros padres… darle vacaciones a nuestra rutina y ocuparnos también un poco de mirarnos hacia dentro, a nosotros mismos y descubrir lo que realmente nos hace feliz.
